A late lament to a dear old friend Mr. Chris Stanley of Dagenham (pronounced dar-jen-harm), aka Rodney Red, well-known to all the best and most reputable cantinas of Puerto D'Alcudia, Mallorca, and the first known man to run up a tab at a Burger King. Chris told a lot of people he was in the Rubettes, and I'm beginning to suspect this may not have been 100% true, but he also told people I was the guitarist for The Beautiful South, and I'm still waiting for a response from Paul Heaton as to whether this was the case, but I have my doubts I can tell you. Chris was the first person I'd ever seen make a cup of tea in a pint beer jug and use a spoon to stop it breaking. Chris sometimes signed tourist's Drunken Duck t-shirts 'Chris Akabusi'. Chris also invented the selfie using an ordinary camera in 1995, way ahead of his time. Chris appears on this song courtesy of some old cassette I found in my dad's loft in January labelled "Bodge's Dodgy Tape", Chris laughed at me for wanting to keep the cassette, but the last laugh is on him because I had planned right there and then to write a song and use his vocals without his knowledge or permission, I just hadn't got around to it yet for 27 years. Sleep well amigo, from Benny & I, if you can see this you'll probably hate it but I know you'd have expected us to disregard your wishes and do it anyway, I'd even go as far as to lay a 25 peseta maximum bet on it...hasta luego...
